The north (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa)
Has four seasons. Spring (March–April) and autumn (October–November) are best — mild, dry, and pleasant. Summer (May–August) is hot, humid, and the wettest, and it’s the main risk window for storms affecting Halong Bay. Winter (December–February) is cool and can be genuinely cold and misty in the mountains around Sapa.
The centre (Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue)
Runs on a different rhythm. It’s driest and sunniest from February to August, ideal for the beaches. The wet season and heaviest rain come September to December, when this region is most prone to flooding — Hoi An can flood in October–November.
The south (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc)
Is tropical and warm year-round, with two seasons: dry (November–April) is the best time, sunny and comfortable; wet (May–October) brings short, heavy afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain.
